Features that identify us are often collectively referred to as character. These qualities are both visible upon first glance or become distinguishable only after a period of time, such as in getting to know the content of one‘s character.
The images in this exhibition showcase character through the characteristics of love, humanity, accomplishment, and diversity. Self-portraits from Black‘s ongoing series Secretly Pretty, a better-late-than-never celebration of gender expression of their trans feminine identity Violet Rose are displayed alongside portraits of groundbreaking icons, many we know through the characters they portray in TV and film. All activist and humanitarians they are some of the brightest faces of today‘s conversation around the contemporary LGBTQ+ liberation movement including Leslie Jordan, Angelica Ross, MJ Rodriguez, Amy Schneider, Shakina Nayfack, Trace Lysette, AB Farrelly and many more.
