Ever since my mother took over a bare-walled hair salon, I’ve understood the natural connection between Beauty, Illusion, & Art. I knew I had a knack for covering walls with photographs that juxtaposed Beauty‘s ability to empower and objectify women, while drawing viewers in with ease and temptation.
My move from London to New York to Los Angeles honed my focus for shooting macro beauty, and after my first trip to Art Basel, Miami I decided to explore in more detail how to merge Fashion & Art with Lips.
Lips have always been one of fashion’s most powerful motifs – Sex always intrigues, attracts, and sells. However, my fascination lies behind Fashion’s surrealism and use of lips to symbolize overt femininity. Women’s lips are an integral feature of love and sensuality, yet objectification of any physical attribute of women in today’s society still elicits frustration (or lustration), and rightfully so.
Talk is Cheap, an extension of my Lustration series, asks Do people mean what they say? Can words be trusted and relied on? or Are we so overwhelmed by society’s expectations it’s become easier to lie and cast illusions rather than follow through on our words?
