Luca Locatelli is an environmental photographer and film-maker focused on the relations between people, science-technology and the environment. Locatelli produces his stories in collaboration with editors, journalists, environmentalists, and scientists in order to further contextualize his research. Deeply rooted in documentary and journalistic production, his work revolves around the making of the future. For more than a decade his main research has been to explore the most promising solutions to confront the critical environmental issues of the 21st century. The aim of his work is to contribute to an open discussion about our future on the planet. Since 2004 Luca is a founding partner of a non-governmental association that contributes to protect 600 thousand hectares of tropical forest in the Amazon.

Luca is a National Geographic Magazine photographer and frequent contributor to international media such as The New York Times Magazine, TIME, The New Yorker, Bloomberg Businessweek, Geo Germany, among others. Locatelli’s works have been exhibited and featured in various venues including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum-NYC,SCoP, Shanghai Center of Photography,Somerset House-London, Les Rencontres d‘Arles, Visa pour l‘Image, Noorderlicht International Photography Festival, Getxophoto International Image Festival, Cortona On The Move among others. Locatelli‘s work has been awarded extensively including: Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2020 40th anniversary – Winner; World Press Photo 2020 and 2018 – World Photography Organisation 2022-2021-2020-2018 – POY Photographer of the Year 2020 – American Photography Winners 2018 – Nannes Prise 2017 – Aftermath Grant Winner 2014.
