Q&A:
When did you start using Leica?
I began my journey with Leica almost ten years ago when I began borrowing my husband’s old M6. Immediately I fell in love with the unique quality and character of the images. I have grown in my experience as a photographer in symbiosis with Leica, having the ability to use different Leica cameras over the years, and I deepen in my love of photography in part because I’m able to produce imagery that has a certain depth and energy to it.

What is your favorite camera?
M11. Hands down. It’s a dance working with a rangefinder. The camera produces the most beautiful, intense hues, and the imagery has this beautiful glow and creaminess. It’s almost indescribable. It’s rare to find a relationship with a camera. This one makes me want to come back to it again and again.

What is your favorite subject matter to shoot?
Children. The purity of their endeavors in enjoying and exploring life. The wonder they carry. Their wildness. They have become my favorite subject matter. I’ve also fallen deeply in love with landscapes. If I can find an interesting subject to move about in a beautiful, wild landscape, that’s my perfect day of shooting.

What other Leica camera are you thinking of getting?
The Q3. The Q is the first camera I ever owned. The video capability excites me. I will upgrade soon to the Q3.

How has Leica changed your life?
Leica has given me a way to look at the world and then communicate that perspective in a way that feels completely specific to myself. Grounded in grit and character and liveliness and intensity, the images I create with my Leica can deepen my experience of my surroundings. My perspective through the lens of my creativity comes out through my Leica images in a way that not only feels natural and poignant but even elevated beyond my wildest imagination. The colors, the tone, the contrast, the depth… there is a way Leica translates that feels singular to this company. It’s made me a better photographer working with Leica, it’s made me enjoy my visual and emotional experience of certain situations I am documenting, and has therefore impacted the feeling of poetry in my even most simplest days in the process.
